The first official portraits of Prince Louis were released tonight. On one of the pictures, big sister Princess Charlotte (3) can also be seen. They were taken by their proud mother, the Duchess of Cambridge at Kensington Palace. Prince Louis was born on Monday 23 April, just under two weeks ago.
The first of the two portraits was been taken on Princess Charlotte’s 3rd birthday on Wednesday. To our surprise, no new pictures of the Princess were released by the Palace for that occassion. Usually, a new picture (or a set of pictures) was released for every birthday. The Cambridges might just have been waiting a few days so they can release this lovely picture of the birthday girl with her baby brother.
On a second picture, the prince can be seen on his own. The photograph was taken bu the Duchess on the 26th of April, when Prince Louis was only 3 days old. I’m under the impression that Prince Louis looks a lot like his father and uncle when they were a baby! On the other hand, I think Princess Charlotte is a spitting image of her mother.
Pictures of the baby prince were not expected yet, since it took approximately a month before we saw the first photographs of prince George and Princess Charlotte after their births in 2013 and 2015. We might get another set of pictures before the Christening, likely not until later this month or the beginning of next month, with the three Cambridge kids together.

Princess Charlotte of Cambridge is celebrating her 3rd birthday today! Happy birthday Your Royal Highness! It is thought that the family will celebrate the birthday in private at Kensington Palace today. We may hear reports of guests arriving at the Palace to visit the Princess. Her Majesty the Queen arrived by helicopter at Kensington Palace yesterday to visit her newborn great-grandchild Prince Louis and to wish Princess Charlotte an early happy birthday.
Sadly enough, the Duke and Duchess decided not to share a picture of their daughter with the public today. They have done so for every birthday of Prince George and Princess Charlotte in the past. However, since the children were seen in public last week to visit their baby brother in the hospital, and we’ll see them at the Royal Wedding (in a little more than two weeks from now!), Trooping the Colour and Prince Louis’ christening (and possibly on new pictures with their new brother) it has been decided that it was not necessary to release a new photograph.
The Royal Family is attending The Queen’s Birthday Party Concert at the Royal Albert Hall tonight. Her Majesty is celebrating her 92nd birthday today. The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust is the major beneficiary of event. Her Majesty is Patron of the Trust, that champions, funds and connects young leaders who are working hard to make a difference in the world. The leaders of the 53 Commonwealth nations, who were in London this week for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, are at the concert as well.
The concert is broadcasted live on the BBC tonight. Usually, the Queen is not celebrating her birthdays in public on this day in April (except for her ‘special’ birthdays, such as her 80th and 90th), but during Trooping the Colour on a Saturday in June. ‘Special’ birthdays are often celebrated with events in June too instead of April, since the weather is much better. However, Her Majesty made an exception tonight and is celebrating her birthday inside the Royal Albert Hall with her family by her side. Performers include Kylie Minogue and Tom Jones.
A list of members of the Royal Family in attendance tonight:
- Her Majesty the Queen
- The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall
- The Duke of Cambridge
- Prince Harry and Ms. Meghan Markle
- The Princess Royal and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence
- Peter and Autumn Phillips
- The Duke of York
- Princess Eugenie of York and Jack Brooksbank
- Princess Beatrice
- The Earl and the Countess of Wessex
- Lady Louise
- Princess Alexandra
- The Duke and the Duchess of Gloucester
- The Prince and the Princess Michael of Kent
- Lady Sarah Chatto and David Chatto
- The Lord and Lady Frederick Windsor
- Numerous unidentified cousins from the extended Royal Family
As expected, the Duchess of Cambridge is not attending the concert tonight. She is only days away from giving birth to her third child and is on maternity leave since the end of March. She last appeared in public on Easter Sunday when attending a church service with the Royal Family in Windsor. However, it is expected that we will see her somewhere in the next 10 days with a baby in her arms on the steps of the Lindo Wing!
Prince Harry, as President of The Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, gave a speech at the concert tonight. After the speech, the Queen appeared on the stage with Prince Charles, who also gave a short speech for his mother.

The Duchess of Cambridge celebrates her 36th birthday today. Happy birthday Your Royal Highness! It is thought that there has been a private celebration over the weekend at Amner Hall and there will possibly be some kind of private celebration at Kensington Palace today. Both Prince George and Princess Charlotte have to go to school today: prince George starts his spring term at St. Thomas’s Battersea and Princess Charlotte will attend her second day at Willcock’s Nursery School (new pictures were released for her first day yesterday).
For Her Royal Highness, the year ahead will be very special. She will give birth to the couple’s third child in April and she will be attending the wedding of her beloved brother-in-law in May. The third Cambridge baby will also be christened, it is expected that this will be in the summer. There will be lots of Royal engagements this year for the Duchess, probably in the first months of the year and in the autumn, since she will be on maternity leave in most of the spring and summer. There will be at least one foreign visit: to Sweden and Norway later this month. It is possible that there will be another one for the couple in the autumn.
