Kate’s Style File 2017: New or Repeats?

In this final episode of Kate’s Style File 2017 we will analyze the amount of new and repeat clothes and hats worn by the Duchess in 2017. It will be interesting to see if these figures stay the same over the years, or she starts repeating more in the years to come.

The Duchess wore 78 outfits in 2017.

New clothes
As per usual, the Duchess wears new clothes most of the time. Out of the 78 outfits, 49 were entirely new (this is 62,85%). The percentage of new outfits has never been as high as this year. In comparison to the other years: 33 new outfits in 2014 (54,10%), 27 new outfits in 2015 (58,70%) and 45 outfits in 2016 (53,37%). Some of her best new outfits in 2017:

Kate’s Style File 2017: The Designers

In this fourth episode of Kate’s Style File 2017, we will have a look at the favorite designers of the Duchess in 2017. This feature is especially interesting now we can compare four years. Are there designers who have secured a steady spot in the top-3? Are there designers who were worn a lot in the past, but don’t get many wears now? Do the Duchess’ choices in designers change over the years? Let’s find out!

The Duchess wore 78 different outfits this year. However, if she wore two designers in one outfit, I counted it as two designers, so there are more designers than outfits.

The Favorites
For the fourth consecutive year, the top spot was taken by Alexander McQueen. The Duchess’ bespoke McQueen outfits are designed by Sarah Burton, the woman who also designed the Duchess’ wedding dress in 2011. The Duchess wore 8 outfits by McQueen this year. In comparison, she wore 11 McQueen outfits in 2014, 5 in 2015 and 11 in 2016. The Duchess wore McQueen for some of her most important events of the year again, including the wedding of her sister, the arrival in Poland, Trooping the Colour, the Battle of Passchendaele Commemoration, Royal Ascot and her first BAFTA Awards ceremony.

Kate’s Style File 2017: The Hairstyles

In this third episode of Kate’s Style File 2017, we will have a look at the Duchess’ hair. 2017 was the year of *the cut*. More on that, and my thoughts about it, will be explained in this blog post. We will also analyze how the cut influenced the variety of hair styles worn by the Duchess.

The Duchess wore 78 different hairstyles in 2017.

The Favorites
The Duchess’ favorite this year was again the signature hair down-look. She wore her hair down for a staggering amount of 47 times this year, which is more than 60%. In comparison: we saw her hair down 35 times in 2014 (55%), 29 times in 2015 (63%) and 42 times in 2016 (50%).

The Duchess’ hair looked absolutely amazing on 17 January, when the Duke and Duchess and Prince Harry outlined their future Heads Together plans. (Personally, when I see this, I can almost start crying when I compare it to her hair after *the cut*. This. Looks. So. AMAZING.).

Kate’s Style File 2017: The Type of Clothes

In this second episode of Kate’s Style File 2017, the type of clothes worn by the Duchess will be analyzed. While we love to see the Duchess in a gown, she also wears great coats, cocktail dresses and trousers.

The Duchess wore 78 outfits in 2017.

The Favorites
As per usual, the Duchess’ favorite is the dress or the top and skirt. Even though the absolute and relative numbers have slightly dropped this year compared to other years, this type of clothes still remains at the top with 30 outfits (which is 38,46% of the total amount of outfits worn this year). In comparison: the Duchess wore this type of clothes 28 times in 2014 (43,75%), 20 times in 2015 (43,48%) and 35 times in 2016 (41,67%).

Kate’s Style File 2017: The Colours

In this first episode of a brand new year of Kate’s Style File we will, as usual, cover the colours worn by the Duchess of Cambridge in 2017. It was another eventful year for the Duchess. Her sister got married, she traveled on a tour to Poland and Germany in the summer and she announced her third pregnancy. Since the Autumn of 2017, the Duchess is a fulltime royal, although this was ruined for a bit by the Duchess’ morning sickness caused by her pregnancy. As a result of this, the Duchess didn’t have any engagements in September and only very few in October.

Favorite colours
The Duchess of Cambridge’s favorite colours in 2017 appear to be white (worn 11 times, which is about 14% of all outfits), red and black (both worn 10 times, which is about 12,5% of all outfits).

The Duchess’ favorite this year was white with 11 outfits. White has been a favorite for two years in a row now, with claiming the third spot in 2016. Other colors on the top spot have been blue, black and navy in 2014 (all three 8 outfits), blue in 2015 (7 outfits) and red in 2016 (13 outfits). Some examples of the Duchess in white in 2017:
