Cambridge Review: week 2, 2018

The Cambridges returned to London this week to start school and official engagements again in the new year. Princess Charlotte marked a very important milestone on Monday, she attended her first day at Willcocks Nursery School in Kensington. Two adorable photographs were released for the occassion. Prince George started school again on Thursday, which happened to be his mother’s 36th birthday.

Furthermore, it was announced that the Duchess’ two patronages, The Art Room and Place2Be, are planning to merge and continue under the name Place2Be to be able to reach more children and young people with their support in the future. HRH will remain their Royal Patron.


Engagements

The Duchess of Cambridge started the year on Wednesday with a visit to Reach Academy in Feltham for her patronage Place2Be. She met children and parents to talk about the support the school offers in collaboration with Place2Be and joined an art class in the nursery.

On the same day, the Duke had two engagements in London. He first visited The Royal Marsden, of which he is the President, to watch two robotic surgeries performed on cancer patients. He also visited some patients who are receiving treatment in the hospital. Later that day, he visited the CALMzone, one of the Heads Together charity partners, to lend his support to their ‘Best Man Project,’ a campaign to prevent male suicide.

The Duchess made a surprise appearance at a conference hosted by her patronage The Anna Freud Centre in London on Thursday. She stayed for several hours at the conference (which wasn’t announced beforehand) because she’s said to be very keen on learning more about children’s mental health. She also met with young people and staff after the end of the conference to talk about the HeadStart programme of the Anna Freud Centre.

  • Tuesday 16 January: The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will carry out a day of engagements in Coventry
  • Wednesday 17 January: The Duchess of Cambridge will visit to Great Ormond Street Hospital, to open the Mittal Children’s Medical Centre
  • Wednesday 17 January: The Duchess of Cambridge will visit to Bond Primary School in Mitcham to see the work of the Wimbledon Junior Tennis Initiative.
  • Thursday 18 January: The Duke of Cambridge will visit the Evelina Children’s hospital in London to celebrate the national rollout of  the programme ‘Step into Health’
